Where to start

KDP's content guidelines distinguish AI-generated content from AI-assisted work. Generated text, images or translations require disclosure, including after substantial editing. AI assistance with your own content does not require that disclosure. The book must still comply with the rest of KDP's guidelines.

Classify the actual production process, not how natural the result sounds. A detection score is not a substitute for knowing who or what created the final material. Review the current policy and submission questions when you publish.

Prepare a production record

  • List the final text, cover, interior images and any translations.
  • For each, record whether AI generated the content or helped revise content you created.
  • Keep relevant source files and notes explaining the workflow.
  • Resolve content-quality and permission issues before submission.
  • Answer the platform's current questions yourself and retain a copy of the release files.

Separate different uses in the same book

You write a personal account and use AI to suggest clearer sentence structure. Separately, you generate an illustration for the cover. Do not classify the entire book from the text workflow alone; the cover has its own production history.

If you cannot remember where a passage originated, check your drafts rather than guessing from its tone. A simple production log made during creation is easier to rely on than reconstructing dozens of edits at upload time. Disclosure does not replace editorial review or establish rights by itself.

Check your result

  • Every final asset has a known production history.
  • The disclosure answers describe what actually happened.
  • Quality, permissions and file checks are complete.
  • You have not treated platform acceptance as a guarantee of sales.
