What KDP actually asks you

When you publish on Kindle Direct Publishing, the submission flow asks whether AI was used to create your book, and whether the content is AI-generated or AI-assisted. That is the whole event: two honest answers, not an interrogation.

Amazon added these questions so it can catalog AI-made books correctly. Answering yes does not block publication, lower your royalties, or flag your account. It puts your book in the right bucket.

AI-generated vs AI-assisted: the line that matters

The distinction KDP draws is about how much of the content the machine produced. If software drafted your chapters and you published them with light edits, that is AI-generated. If you wrote the book and used AI for brainstorming, outlining help, or copyediting, that is AI-assisted.

The risk is not in using AI; it is in hiding it. Amazon has removed books whose publishers answered the AI questions inaccurately, because a false answer is a policy violation regardless of the book's quality.

There is no upside to answering no when the answer is yes. Disclosure does not affect your royalty rate, your categories, or your eligibility for programs. Honesty is the entire strategy.
